Cogeco announces full launch of EPICO IPTV service

Canadian cableco Cogeco Connexion has announced the full commercial launch of its 'EPICO' IPTV service based on a technology platform integrated with Google's Android TV ecosystem, available now for 'the majority' of its customers across its Quebec/Ontario network footprint. Cogeco says the new service allows users to take advantage of the latest technological developments in television, a cloud computing infrastructure and a scalable platform. Company president Frederic Perron noted: 'More than 1,200 employees were our first users before offering EPICO to our customers … now, more than 12,000 customers are enjoying the benefits of EPICO.' A press release highlights that EPICO users can access all content through a single interface, including live and on-demand channels, as well as Netflix, YouTube, Disney+ and thousands of applications via the Google Play Store, with an intuitive personalised interface plus features such as voice command and programme restart. The EPICO 4K wireless cloud PVR has capacity for recording 1,000 hours of content, which can be downloaded and watched offline via the EPICO mobile app.

TeleGeography's GlobalComms Database notes that back in August 2018 Cogeco entered into an agreement with MediaKind (formerly Ericsson Media Solutions) to provide an IPTV platform based on the latter's MediaFirst solutions, to operate alongside the cableco's existing video platforms including TiVo.

Thanks to TeleGeography for this industry update.
