Videotron signs up Samsung for LTE-A, 5G rollouts

South Korean technology vendor Samsung has announced that it will provide 4G LTE-A and 5G radio access network (RAN) solutions to Canadian mobile operator and cableco Videotron. Starting in early 2020, Samsung will deliver LTE-A solutions across Quebec and Ottawa including Massive MIMO and dual-band base stations, alongside 5G solutions using 3.5GHz and 28GHz spectrum. Videotron plans to launch a commercial LTE-A service upgrade alongside 5G in late 2020.Videotron CEO Jean Francois Pruneau said: 'This partnership will allow us to deliver the most advanced telecommunications solutions to Quebecers. While 4G technology has profoundly transformed telecommunications in the world, LTE Advanced and 5G will undoubtedly revolutionise the way we interact with our loved ones and the environment around us.'

The deal represents Samsung's first network provision contract win in Canada.
