Canadian rural fixed-wireless broadband operator Xplornet yesterday revealed that it will launch 4G LTE mobile network services in Manitoba this autumn under the Xplore Mobile brand. Xplornet obtained mobile 700MHz/1700MHz/2500MHz frequencies for the province in March 2017 in a windfall from Bell Canada’s takeover of Manitoba Telecom Services, under government policy to maintain at least four viable mobile operators in all provinces. A press release says that Xplore Mobile voice, text and data services will be based on ‘values of fairness, simplicity and transparency’. Six retail outlets will open in Brandon and Winnipeg this autumn, while in total the company plans to invest CAD100 million (USD77 million) in Manitoba. Xplornet also indicated that it has a national LTE mobile network roaming agreement in place.
