The Brains of Sapling’s Clock Systems

The human brain is responsible for everything that we do. It is responsible for the decisions we make, our reasoning behind that decision, and then physically carrying out that decision. The human brain may possess the same general structure as other mammals, but is much larger relative to body size. The brain has control over your information gathering, decision making, and many more fundamental activities. Just like the brain in a human system, the master clock acts as the brain in a Sapling Synchronized Clock System.

In every Sapling system, there is a master clock controlling the secondary clocks within that system. Whether it is wired, wireless, TalkBack, or IP, the master clock is the brains of the organization. Leading the operations, the master clock will first receive the accurate time from an NTP server. It then sends out the signal to the secondary clocks within the system, ensuring every clock is updated with the new time. The secondary clocks will then receive the signal and display the time, or depending on the system, repeat the signal to other secondary clocks.

The Sapling Company’s Master Clocks have many features that make it the most advanced centerpiece within a synchronized clock system.

  • (S)NTP input
  • Available in a rack or wall mount
  • Can interface with other clock systems
  • Built-in web interface that allows you to program the secondary clock from any Internet connection
  • Available with 4 or 8 zones for controlling systems like HVAC that may need to be timed

These are just a few of the features that accompany a master clock. Sapling’s 3000 or 6000 Master Clock or the NTP 8000 also has the ability to start a countdown, which allows the digital secondary clocks to countdown in between classes or breaks. The master clock also has the ability to update automatically for Daylight Saving Time.

How Wireless Clocks Assist with a Facility’s Safety

Supervising and managing a large facility is no walk in the park, especially when you begin to list the countless efforts that must all come together unceremoniously to make sure operations of the facility run efficiently. Large facilities, like hospitals, schools and universities, or businesses, need numerous amounts of these tasks to all come together. Many little things that people take for granted, such as waste management and maintenance work are vital to daily operations.

Perhaps one of the most important jobs of a facility manager, however, is the maintenance of a building’s security system. The safety of a building, and more importantly the people within the buildings, is a task that is always on top of the to-do list. A lack of preparation or awareness could cause catastrophes for not only the business but harming of the safety of the people that liven up the facility. In addition to security systems, another great product installation that aides in safety is a Sapling wireless clock system. Not only will the building operate more efficiently through synchronized time, the building’s security system will become considerably simpler to manage.

A Sapling wireless clock system attains its accurate time from a master clock, which transmits the signal to each individual clock within the system. Furthermore, the master clock is able to automate security systems throughout the building. The master clock has scheduling capabilities which allow a facility manager to consolidate the building’s security system with the wireless clock system. This alleviates the duties of setting alarms or locking doors from humans, which can be subject to error.

Adding a Sapling wireless synchronized clock system into your operations will greatly increase your facility’s and employee’s safety. No short cuts can be taken when people’s safety is the subject matter; there is no value that can be placed on human safety. A Sapling wireless clock system not only improves operational efficiency, but can help increase the high valued and much needed safety and peace of mind for all involved.

IP Clocks Do More than Just Tell Time

Although there are many alternatives available, some facilities are still using battery-powered, individual wall clocks. While it may not seem necessary to change a facility’s entire clock system, many of the features of Sapling’s IP clocks may make you reconsider. The obvious benefit of making this switch is the convenience of having synchronized, accurate time throughout your entire facility. However, our IP clock system does more than just tell time. Below are 5 of the unique features that differentiate our IP clocks from the typical wall clock.

1. Send the Message

With Sapling IP digital clocks, facilities will have use of a text display feature. With this aspect of the system, the digital clocks not only display precise, synchronized time, they can also be used to display text. This is especially useful in an emergency, during which the digital IP clocks can display emergency warnings such as “Fire” and “911.” This message display feature will ensure that everyone in your facility is safe and informed about any situation that may arise. Additionally, IP digital clocks come with the option to display alternating date and time.

2. Count Down or Up

Knowing the specific time is not always enough. Sometimes, it is important to know how much time has passed or how much time is remaining. In these instances, Sapling’s elapsed timer feature is extremely helpful. With the flip of a switch, a particular digital clock can be controlled to start counting down or counting up, depending on your needs and preferences. This is especially helpful in emergency “code blue” situations in hospitals, or in routine procedures, such as standardized testing in schools. Either way, facilities that make use of Sapling IP digital clocks with an elapsed timer feature can ensure accurate, precise records.

3. Tell International Time

Our world is become increasingly globalized, which means that individuals from different countries are constantly in communication with one another. For businesses, military bases, transportation facilities, and any other industry that has contact with international clients, Sapling IP clocks are a must-have. Our clocks have time zone capabilities that allow individual clocks in a facility to be set to separate time zones. Because each IP clock can be programmed individually, the facility manager can choose specific clocks to be programmed in accordance with different time zones. Whether your client is in Beijing, Paris, or California, you can be certain that you will never call at an inappropriate time. Additionally, travelers will have a much easier time determining flight departures and arrivals with the use of zone clocks.

4. Give the Wrong Time – On Purpose

What’s this? Synchronized clocks telling the wrong time? Well… kind of. With the bias seconds feature, your IP Clocks can be set so that they are still receiving the accurate time from an input source, but display a few minutes fast or slow, depending on your preferred settings. This can be helpful in a number of applications, such as a large school district that dismisses all of its students at the same time. Setting a few of the schools ahead by a few minutes can greatly reduce traffic congestion and other issues that may have occurred otherwise.

5. Send Reminders

As mentioned previously, it can be challenging to keep up with all of the clocks if you are the manager of a large facility. Constantly having to check around the building for delayed or stalled clocks can detract time from the numerous other responsibilities that a facility manager faces. With Sapling IP Clocks, this problem is eliminated. Using the IP Web Monitor Software, the facility manager can see the status of every clock in the facility at a glance. Even if a facility manager doesn’t have the time to check the clocks via the software, the software will send updated information to a specified e-mail address in the event that there is a clock malfunction. Additionally, the software will use this e-mail address to send countdown information.

As you can see, installing a Sapling IP Clock System is not simply an investment in accurate, synchronized time, but rather an investment in an orderly, informative, and conveniently-run facility. After making the switch from run-of-the-mill wall clocks to a Sapling IP Clock System, you will begin to wonder how your facility ever got along without the numerous features and ease of use it provides.

Beat the Clock with Sapling’s TalkBack Technology

Depending on the size of your facility and how many buildings the company and/or organization occupies, you could have anywhere from 10 to 1,000+ clocks installed throughout. For a facility manager and his/her staff, that could potentially be a lot of clocks to keep an eye on. Not to mention, a whole slew of other equipment to monitor and issues that could arise within a company or organization at any moment.

Sapling has engineered a Wireless Clock System with TalkBack Technology in order to help facility departments easily monitor all the clocks within the system in order to avoid any major issues from occurring. Not only does Sapling’s Wireless TalkBack System provide all the secondary clocks with the most accurate time, this system also allows the secondary clocks to report their status back to the master clock. The secondary clocks can report back the following:

  • Current battery levels
  • Signal strength
  • Mechanical (analog) or display (digital) alerts
  • Last time the clock(s) received a signal

The clock system’s administrator can access all this information and so much more through Sapling’s master clock web interface. In order to gain access to the web interface, you must retrieve the IP address of the master clock (this is explained in detail in the master clock’s manual). Once the master clock’s IP address is located, you can type the address into a web browser of a computer that is connected to the same network as the master clock. By logging into the web interface and clicking on the TalkBack tab, there will be a list of every TalkBack Wireless clock within the system. This tab will give you the location of the clock (the clock system’s administrator will choose at the time of installation), and all the information needed to determine the status of the clocks within the system.

Sapling’s Wireless TalkBack System allows the system’s administrator to be in total control of the clock system. There is no need to wonder if the clock system is operating correctly; the facility department will have all the necessary information at their fingertips.
