Rogers completes national 5G SA core rollout, gains 5G SA device certification

Rogers Communications announced on 25 October 2021 that it had completed the rollout of Canada's first national 5G Standalone (SA) core network in partnership with Ericsson and also achieved the country's first 5G SA device certification, for the Google Pixel 6/6 Pro smartphones. Rogers' press release says that over the next few months eligible customers will automatically connect to the 5G SA network in major markets including Vancouver, Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal.

Yasir Hussain, Chief Technology Officer at Ericsson Canada, said: 'The transition to a 5G SA network service unlocks key end-to-end network connectivity capabilities and is an important step in enabling new opportunities for industries, enterprises and consumers. Rogers and Ericsson's long-standing partnership continues to bring innovation to the growing needs of business and consumer demands, and we look forward to working with Rogers to bring more technological advancements to all Canadians.'
