Canada's Telus announced the expansion of its 5G network to several smaller communities, including Chilliwack in British Columbia, plus Fairview, Greenview, Smoky River and Wabasca in Alberta, enabling businesses and residents to access what the operator claims is 'the fastest 5G network in Canada'.

Telus' 5G coverage map currently shows a presence in at least 50 cities and smaller communities across Canada, having previously claimed coverage of 26 cities in November 2020. Over the next three years, Telus has committed to investing an additional CAD40 billion (USD31 billion) to support the rollout of its 5G network, having invested nearly CAD240 billion in network infrastructure, spectrum and operations since 2000.

Telus also announced the completion of a joint-funded CAD23 million project in partnership with the Canadian and Quebec governments, and the Societe du Plan Nord, expanding its 4G LTE network to 14 isolated Lower North Shore communities, giving 2,000 households access to high speed mobile internet services for the first time via new fibre and microwave links. The project also brought fibre to 16 public organisations, including all of the region's clinics and healthcare centres, and tripled the high speed capacity of the 15 local schools.
