Telus has announced 'a new benchmark for home and business internet speeds in Western Canada' with the launch of its new 1.5Gbps download/940Mbps upload 'PureFibre 1.5 Gigabit' broadband service, available now to residential and B2B customers in British Columbia and Alberta. Previously, Telus' peak retail broadband package speed was a symmetrical 940Mbps. Telus claims that the 940Mbps peak uplink rate is 'over 37 times faster than the upload speeds of other widely available [rival] plans in Western Canada.' The telco notes that its fibre-optic infrastructure is also the backbone of its wireless network and lays the groundwork for upcoming 5G mobile launches.
PureFibre 1.5 Gigabit Internet is available for CAD165 (USD123) per month on a two-year contract.
